Year Of Activity

From "SHARING" #003, February 1996

"I asked God for strength, that I might achieve.  I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey.  I asked for health, that I might do greater things.  I was given infirmity, that I might do better things.  I asked for riches, that I might be happy.  I was given poverty, that I might be wise.  I asked for power, that I might have praise of men.  I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God.  I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life.  I was given life, that I might enjoy all things . . .  I got nothing that I asked for, but everything I had hoped for.  Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered, and I am among all men, most richly blessed."

It appears that 1995 was a year of getting organized.  However, it has clearly begun in 1996 to be a year of activity.  The Keyholder program is up and running, and eight out of 24 keys have already been spoken for.  I have added a line of natural herbal products to the items marketed through the Center.  And, I am working on a couple of Open Forum time slots during the week and on Saturday, to give poet's circle members a regular opportunity to access the Lending Library and Trade Center.  My prayer and meditation times seem to indicate that this will be a year of teaching, and being the artist, for me.  And, that too has already begun to blossom into activity.

(I introduced Enrich International herbal products in this newsletter which has not been included in the excerpts. The Financial Summary rounded out the first page of what became a two page Sharing)

Didn't leave myself much room for anything else did I?
Oh well, guess I'll have to use the back of SHARING this time.

FINES. The standard check-out period for library items is two weeks + two weeks renewal (if nobody has reserved the item), or a total of just under a month.  In the past, I've told people not to worry much about deadlines because of the light usage of the library.  But that has changed. And, some of you are keeping items for six months, or even a year. Beginning April 1, 1996 (30 days from now), there will be a 5 cent fine per day, for every day over one month that you keep an item out.  Fines are to be dropped into one of the contribution baskets. I am hoping we can do this on the honor system.  Don't make someone ask when you know you've kept an item too long.  Note: Artwork fines start after the appropriate due date, since they vary.

Common sense is a good resource, but God's uncommon wisdom is infinitely better.
And it's responsive to all who seek it.

OPEN FORUM.  Currently the Center is open Wednesdays from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  I call this Open Forum.  It is a time when poet's circle members can access the Library, Trade Center, Prayer Room, etc.  Nobody can reserve an area during this time, it is open to all.  I would like to expand the Wednesday time to 7:30 p.m., and add Saturday's from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  But in order to do so we have to have adequate volunteer staff.  If you have been interested in becoming a Keyholder, but finances are a little tight, this would be an excellent opportunity to trade your time for Key Fee Credits.  My intent is to break Saturdays down between odd numbered and even numbered (date), so nobody is tying up all their Saturdays.  We may even consider a one Saturday per month option.  If you are interested, call the Center and leave a message.

Personal strengths and abilities are remarkable, but God's power and resources are beyond human comprehension.

HERBAL HOURS.  Starting March 20, 1996, Christopher will be holding classes to teach about herbs and herbal products in the Enrich line.  Classes will be from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This would be a good opportunity to bring in your questions.  For information, or to sign-up, call Christopher.  There is no cost.

How is golf like taxes?
Well, you drive hard to get to the green, and then you wind up in the hole.

- from The Bell, The Clapper, And The Cord: Wit And Witticism

They couldn't all be serious now, could they?  No poem this month because of the financial statement, but one should be back next time.  I'll try to keep the back of the poem blank for those of you who are cutting them out, for putting into poetry and pictures books.  When I mail out Contribution Cards, and membership cards, in June, look for a new FINANCIAL INTEGRITY STATEMENT.

For peace of mind, resign as general manager of the universe.
