EARTHKEEPING SCRIPTURE QUOTES |
- Psalm 24:1 |
Please note: All of the Scripture quotes are from the New Revised Standard Bible (NRSV). |
The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words; their voice is not heard; yet their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. - Psalm 19:1-4a |
For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. Ever since the creation of the world his eternal power and divine nature, invisible though they are, have been understood and seen through the things he has made. So they are without excuse; Romans 1:19-20

Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? Matthew 6:26-30 |

"We need to rest and allow the Earth to rest, to declare a Sabbath, a space of quiet; for simple being and letting be; for recovering the great, forgotten truths, for learning how to live again." - Kim Winchell |
Speak to the people of Israel and say to them: When you enter the land that I am giving you, the land shall observe a sabbath for the LORD. Six years you shall sow your field, and six years you shall prune your vineyard, and gather in their yield; but in the seventh year there shall be a sabbath of complete rest for the land, a sabbath for the LORD . . . Leviticus 25:2-4a |
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established; what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor. You have given them dominion over the works of your hands; Psalm 8:3-6a |
Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and everything in it. Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy before the LORD Psalm 96:11-12

Scripture tells us that all of creation praises God. How do animals, birds and insects, or how about soil and rocks, do that? They do it by simply being what they were created to be. If that is so, then just being who God created each of us to be is what real worship is all about. For we are a part of His creation. Discover and live the life your Creator intended you to live. |
Praise him, sun and moon; Psalm 148:3-5 |
But if you will not obey me, and do not observe all these commandments . . . Then the land shall enjoy its Sabbath
years - Leviticus 26:14,34-35 |
Is it not enough for you to feed
on the good pasture, but you must tread down with your feet the rest of your
pasture? When you drink of clear water, must you foul the rest with your feet? Ezekiel 34:18 |
The earth dries up and withers, the world languishes and withers; the heavens languish together with the earth. The earth lies polluted under its inhabitants; for they have transgressed laws, violated the statutes, broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore a curse devours the earth, and its inhabitants suffer for their guilt; therefore the inhabitants of the earth dwindled, and few people are left. The wine dries up, the vine languishes, all the merry-hearted sigh. Isaiah 24:4-7 |
For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God; for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and will obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning in labor pains until now . . . Romans 8:19-22 |
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. John 3:16-17 |
"There is something that YOU are uniquely positioned to do, that God is calling you to do, that will help to bring healing to the world in some way. Creation waits, with eager longing. What is creation looking for, from you?" - Kim Winchell |

And God said, "Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the dome of the sky." So God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, of every kind, with which the waters swarm, and every winged bird of every kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth." - Genesis 1:20-22 |
